This one is a track that was on the “Citylife 2000″ 12″ released 99-00. The track is by Ship Of Fools, and called “Screaming For Vengeance”, named after the Judas Priest album with the same name.

The beat however is from 95-96 era as most of the other ones right now. I really like this, its so filled with energy and rawness. It´s one of few beats where I used looped drum-tracks. They are of course cut up and rea-assembled, but it still plays as loops.

I like it.

Another softie. It´s the same era, 95-ish. This could work as quite a good soft track, a bit repetative perhaps. I dont get any clear references for it.

A softie. I always wanted to do a soft track that still has that groove and coolness, like “Passing Me By”, but I never realy made it. This one is more like an embryo. Theres something missing. But at the same time it reminds me alot of Souls Of Mischief, which is not a bad thing, so I guess it´s alright, in some way.

This one had it´s name from the group Medeski, Martin 6 Wood. I think I sampled the snaredrum, bassdrum and hihat, from them. It makes it a bit lighter in the beats, not as much punch. But its still a good beat. Maybe a bit towards a skit also. As always, Premier is there.

This one actually made it on to become a fullength track, on some obscure mixtape or something. It´s nothing special, really kind of boring, but it has a nice flow in some way. 95-97.

When I had done this beat, I remember thinking it sounded quite alot like Spotrunnaz, and Breakmecanix production style. Their early stuff. I think it´s that whale like sample, along with the hard rhodes samples. 96-97

I love that I did these kinds of beats. Its just too gritty to be true. A fucked up worthless little piece of sample (probably some audience and drums sample from some live jazz-album), combined with easy straight forward beats and bass. Very nice. 95-97.

This one is a bit more like an intro- or skit-beat than a regular track. I always think of “Mecca And The Soul Brother” by Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth, when I listen to this beat. It ´s like one of all their skit-beats thats on that album. It´s nice and jazzy and perfectly gritty. 96-97.

A bit Premier and a bit Dj Muggs, or maybe T-Ray, as far as the use of instrumentation to enhance choruses. I´m thinking of the insane cool piano lick that starts of the beat. Listening now it´s defenitley quite a lot of early Funkdoobiest in it, but I don´t think that was my intention. Again I think Premier is the main influence. Also from 96-ish I think.

This is from a period when I tried to use very different types of samples and still combine them into a functioning groove. Often there was some weird stuff sampled aswell, like this percussion bell. Basically it´s the technique I´ve always used, but I think I tried to find samples that did not work together, and make them work. It all ties togeteher with the beats, but it´s not brilliant. A bit too repetative aswell. 96 I think.
